A couple thoughts on the Cincinnati Open.
1. The venue is world-class. A large investment in facilities and food/bev/entertainment and it is a great event.
2. Many tennis people travel to Cincy for this event as it is cheaper and more accessible than other US tournaments. (some have been coming for over a decade) I met a couple from NYC and a guy from Charlotte that are here just for the tournament. The crowd is the beautiful people mostly white/some asian with a parking lot full of BMW, Mercedes, Lexus etc.
3. We went to session two of the 16 so two matched. The first was Swiatek and cut short due to injury. Second was a two set route by Fils. Much prefer the early rounds where there are lots of matches, smaller courts and practice courts.
4. HUGE line for the Graeters booth. I could not quite figure out and chalked it up to social media. It turns out that celebs were scooping ice cream and last night it was Tracy Austin.
5. Weather spectacular (which never happens in cincy in august)
