Where I strongly associate it with a throwaway passage dealing with food than anything bigger in the book. That being Pirate's banana breakfast. The other book is "Say Nothing," where I have a strong association/memory for the part where they send the kids out at the beginning to get fish and chips in a big greasy bag. This is when their mother disappears forever and the like 10 kids are left all alone, which is sad, yes, but also, dang, don't some greasy fried fish n chips sound pretty good?

I read Vineland this summer, mainly because I really liked One Battle After Another, which was partially based on one relatively short part of the book. Plus id never read anything by Pynchon before. As it turns out, Vineland was pretty mid. Managed to finish it though. Likely my last Pynchon book.*
