At first, I was very resistant to this. My birthday is this week and I *never* was in school for my birthday, but I've come around. It gives families time during the year to go do things, not have to compress them all into the summer when things are oppressively hot.

I get your point about it being so hot for the start of school, but honestly, most schools do have competent AC these days (obligatory #notallschools, and that sucks for them, but the vast majority). Yeah, kids have to wait for the bus and stuff, but at least it's still light out for most of the start of the year.

My high school teaching wife is 100% on board with the current system.
