The Victors

I did that in the 2020 election and it was an eye-opening experience. I got to drive all over DeKalb County for both Election Day and the two Senate run-offs that determined control of Congress. It got across to me that it is really hard to fuck with an in-person election because there are SO many polling locations. Most of the people who do it on both sides are civically minded, reasonable people. I didn't encounter any GOP weirdos until the last poll location I hit in the January run-off, where the GOP observer was demanding to take down the numbers of the Dominion voting machines and was generally being an ass. The guy running the precinct was having none of it. The GOP observer claimed to be an IT guy from the northern suburbs, which checks out perfectly. Lord only know what that observer experience will be like in the coming years after years of Trump-inspired conspiracy thinking has percolated on the right.
