It means shame, but it's used as I understand it specifically in the context of a Jewish person doing something really awful that makes other Jewish people embarrassed and ashamed because this fucking shanda is disgracing us in front of everyone.
I'm not Jewish but that's how I feel about Trump. A shanda for America and Americans. As are all the fucking morons who continue to support him.
