that it’s a terrible sign for the health of our democracy that something that the rest of the democratic world (not just the UK) treats as an obvious, no second-guessing disqualifier is not treated that way at all by one of the two parties in our democracy.

It means Republicans are fully, reflexively tribal now. The only unquestioned disqualifying trait for a Republican now is public criticism of President Daddy.
