The Victors

1. Aventura was pretty great. We got into town early, so we were able to take advantage of the happy hour deals at the bar. We didn't indulge in the paella this time, but that was a pretty good way to sample all of the flavors for cheap. All was good until I had something with tinned fish. I like seafood, but apparently, tinned fish is too concentrated for my palate. Lesson learned.

2. The city was bumping. Between move-in week and ideal weather, people were everywhere. Great energy and such a fun vibe.

3. We walked up through the diag tonight and hit up Charley's and Joe's Pizza for a slice. It was a trip sitting at the bar at Charley's and looking at the table I watched the ALCS from in 2003. When we walked in, the bouncer immediately reached for the stamp. I told him I could show him our IDs, but we'd both feel embarrassed. He said, "there's no doubt in my mind."

4. When the check came at Charley's, I had to pull out my phone and use the flashlight. That was humbling.

5. It was fun seeing the groups of freshmen walking around campus, wide-eyed and embracing their newfound freedom. Took me back to 2000.
