I can't tell you how many fundraising texts I've received touting Schumer's and Klobuchar's sponsoring a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. Of course, this is total pissing in the wind. A constitutional amendment must be passed by a 2/3rds supermajority in the Senate and the House and then ratified by 3/4ths of the States. In short, the chance that their proposed amendment will become law is zero and it is an insult to the intelligence that they pretend that this effort is at all meaningful. It is one of many reasons why Senators such as Schumer and Klobuchar are not up to the moment and must be replaced.

If they were at all serious about getting rid of Buckley v. Valeo's noxious money = speech premise, they would be pushing the cause of increasing the number of Justices, breaking the Supreme Court up into panels ala the Court of Appeals, etc. As it currently stands, the Supreme Court will block fundamental elements of a Democratic agenda, including campaign finance reform.

Fuck Chuck Schumer.
