Having a side on UM/MSU.
As an undergrad at CMU, everyone I knew who cared about CFB aligned themselves with either UM or MSU. (Unless they were from Alabama or something.) I’m sure that’s true at a place like Adrian as well. By contrast, very, very few kids grow up as an Adrian fan or CMU fan.
Hell, I was attending UM games regularly by the time I was 11, living and dying with the team.
Are non-alum* fans a different category of fans than alums? Sure, that’s reasonable. But this MSU idea that they are illegitimate is just dumb. Every CFB program that anyone cares about has tons of non-alum fans.
(*I’m technically an alum I guess: I took a couple classes at UM-D when I was a sr in HS. But I would never claim that title.)
