- He was given a series of high profile jobs early in his career (Tennessee, USC, and the Raiders) based on the first two bullets above and failed at all of them. Oh, and he (and Sark) was also able to call successful plays with Leinart/Bush/Jarrett/White.
- He was a complete prick when he left Tennessee, leaving them after one year and recruiting their players on behalf of USC on his way out the door.
- He's a classic LET'S MAKE IT ALL ABOUT ME figure. He preened on the sidelines at Neyland the last time Ole Miss went there such that they threw various objects at him, including a mustard bottle. He had that disgusting drama last year about whether he would stay at Ole Miss or go to LSU that ESPN covered like the President was at death's door.
- After he left Ole Miss for their second-biggest rival in the middle of Ole Miss's best title shot since integration (itself a perfect comment on Kiffin as a person), the Ole Miss program had their football offices swept for bugs because that's exactly the kind of person Lane is.
- He's now at LSU in the state that law forgot (not surprising that they have been one of the primary victims of the "everyone can pay the players above the table" era) and is promptly at war with the SEC to take back an NFL washout after the SEC banned the practice.
He's an insufferable ass and people like to see coaches like that fail. That's why he gets attention.
