McCoy tore his ACL on an awkward landing from a contested layup. It could have happened anywhere, doing any number of basketball-related or non-basketball related activities. For all we know, there may have been an existing weakness or injury that predisposed him to additional injury. You can't bubble-wrap your roster and then shove them out on the court for the first game.
