And there are a lot of days on which I agree with him. A couple of posters objected that their songwriting is very derivative compared to say the Beatles or the Stones, but I would make a couple of points:
(1) A huge number of their songs are completely original, with none of the "borrowing" from blues musicians that was heavily featured on their earliest records.
(2) Even the stuff that borders on outright theft/copyright infringement, like their re-working of Howlin' Wolf's Killing Floor as The Lemon Song, is extremely original in that it pretty much totally transforms the source material into a radically new song. BTW The Lemon Song is a great example of another of Bluebossa's points, which is that all four of them were really incredible musicians, both in the studio and live. A comparison:
