Just had a wild exchange with ChatGPT and Google

It reinforces something my wife said was a colleagues experience. Her colleague said that AI agents he was using gave better / more correct answers when yelled at them.

I saw some faces I did not recognize interviewing Wawrinka after he lost to Berrettini. Saw one of the same guys again interviewing Monfils. So I asked both “who is interviewing … right now”. Neither could answer about right now. So I asked hermetically who was doing the post match interviews on court.

(Btw, apples predictive text, weirdly, tried injecting the word hermetically several times in bizarre places in this post. Above was one I missed editing out)

GPT: James Blake
I said no, it’s a white male. GPT scratched its head, said it really wanted to say James Blake but it didn’t want to give me an answer that clearly contradicts what I’m saying. It then threw out guesses but not giving them as answers. Things like “people who typically …” and listing various ESPN personalities, USTA officials. None correct.

Google: Hailey someone
I told Google no, it’s a white male
Google says James Blake.
I say no, I said white male
Google apologized and says it’s actually Sam Querrey.
I said “you made that up”, explained Querrey does commentary and i asked about on court interviews. Google apologizes up and down and says sorry sorry sorry. The name you are looking for is James Sarkus.

I ask Google “who is James Sarkus?”
Google apologizes profusely, says it got flustered and made up a name. There is no James Sarkus. It hallucinated the name. The real answer is … James Sarcus
I recap its answers back to itself and say “WTF?”
Google says “You are right to say wtf”, apologizes, says it got panicky and defensive when I called out its incorrect answer and started hallucinating. But it’s got its head clear and the answer is Jeff Darlington.

No it’s not. So I asked Google “Why can’t you admit you don’t know?” Finally, Google admits it does not know, says its data had lists of ESPn personalities and guesses from there. (Note - I never asked about ESPN. It assumed that part)

I go back to ChatGpT and say “why when I ask this question do *other* sources like Google always say James Blake? Chat GPT, who said James Blake every time I asked this, now says there is no evidence that Blake is doing on court interviews and that any mention of him doing so is old news from prior years

Then it tells me the answer is Eric Butorac
Which is correct.
