The Victors

My wife’s good friend invited us to go to an event, sponsored by one of local brewpubs, with her. It’s some sort of contest for local places to prepare the best bacon dish. Bacon and beer—what’s not to love?

Anyway, turns out it’s the evening of the Oregon game. Wife says to me “[friend] is going to order tickets. You want to go, right? Oh wait, it’s a Saturday. You probably don’t want to miss the Michigan game?”

I look it up, and it’s the Oregon game. “Nope, it’s a really big game that will very likely be evening our time.”

Zero judgement from her—she says “once they set the game time, we could probably get another ticket if we need to.”

As it should be, right? I don’t have a jillion sporting events that I expect life to be scheduled around—only Michigan football. And she has come to just accept that as how things work.
