Possibly unpopular opinion: I abhor “access journalism.” Is there a single story that any access journalist has reported that matches the importance of Pablo Torre’s work on Ballmer, or even UNC?

I guess Jeff Passan’s work is pretty interesting, if he counts as an access journalist. Otherwise?
If you have good access to players and especially management & owners, you probably aren’t reporting or saying a single interesting thing.
Contrast MGoBlog with the drivel that On3 puts out. We all laugh about BallAss, etc but seriously; the insiders are wrong so often that a public school bus driver and former Stryper roadie scooped them hard in the biggest story in Michigan football history. OSU’s accessed reporters (with one exception, and the guy nearly quit because of how bad fans were at him) were constantly wrong about StalionsGate. MSU’s access journalist insiders didn’t know shit about Mel Tucker harassing Brenda Tracy and were scooped by a lunatic online guy about hiring Fitz.
