Carville: "We Shot Our Wad": America's Empty Ammo Locker:

Posted on August 5, 2026 at 03:18:35 PM by jhamm

James Carville argues bluntly that the U.S. military is in worse shape than the administration is letting on. Munitions and ordnance supplies are "dangerously low," he says — a direct consequence of recent strikes on Iran. Sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln are so overdeployed that their parents have started contacting their congressmen, with conditions aboard the carrier reportedly becoming "almost inhabitable." Carville points out the irony: the U.S. has eleven aircraft carriers to China's one, and still can't keep them properly deployed and combat-ready.

Most striking is his claim that senior military brass have been going to sergeants and asking for ideas on how to beat Iran — a sign, in his view, of a military stretched past its breaking point. He connects this to a leadership vacuum at the top, contrasting General Donahue — whom he calls one of the best soldiers of the 21st century — with a newly appointed Army Chief of Staff whose competence even Republicans are reportedly questioning. Carville's closing argument: the country is in the middle of losing a war, and refusing to say so out loud only makes it worse.
