I saw this several times. The rhino package can certainly work in spots, even a lot of spots. But if you're using it on passing downs, that means you have no confidence in your pass pro, and are willing to sacrifice an eligible receiver just to give adequate protection. But you're sacrificing a receiver, basically playing a man down in the passing game.

It's an extreme sacrifice that has to reflect desperation. I remember when I was on JV, the freshman football team had nobody who could long snap for a punt, so they'd direct snap to the QB have have him turn and throw the ball back to the punter. I think it worked ok but there's a reason teams generally prefer not to do this. Same principle here.
