After nerding out and reading into it more, I really think WMU's extremely weird pre-snap alignment messed with our footwork. Footwork is SO important.

Having to change footwork means they're committing mental effort to something other than their assignments. It also means they're driving from a different stance on running plays. It's like we faced a knuckleball pitcher with no notice and we didn't know how to deal.
