Schnellenberger isn't close. He had a losing record in his last four years at Louisville.

Whittingham had no decline at Utah and we aren't getting damaged good like OU was getting. Plus, OU had been in decline since Switzer retired so Schnelly was coming into a weaker program.

Richt at Miami is an interesting one although he was taking a step down in the college football hierarchy by going from Georgia to Miami. Whittingham is taking a major step up.

I don't see Holtz as being comparable because he was on the classic upward trajectory when he got to ND as his destination job. Whittingham spent so long at Utah that everyone thought that he would be a lifer there. That's why it's really hard to find a comparator. It's like if Frank Beamer would have left Virginia Tech before his decline phase.
