1990 population = 2.87 million

2000 population = 2.61 million

2011 population = 2.29 million

2022 population = 2.14 million

2025 population estimate = 2.10 million

This isn’t a place where Europeans with options choose to live. They need immigration more than most other regions of Germany, yet the left behinds are virulently anti-immigrant.
