I had a friend (RIP) who played bass in a somewhat successful SE Michigan bar band in the late 70s/early 80s. Generally he was a very cool guy but he was absolutely adamant that Michael Anthony was utter dogshit

He used to go into rages, "God damn it. I can play better bass than Michael Anthony can. Shit, YOU can play better bass than Michael Anthony can."
We drifted out of contact after college and I hadn't spoken to him for 35+ years before reconnecting in the late teens.
First thing I texted to him was, "Eddie Van Halen finally took your advice and shitcanned Michael Anthony," and he said "I told him so 40 years ago."
We had a couple months of funny text exchanges, but then he was killed in a car crash in the U.P.
Needless to say, wherever he is, he must be enraged by these rankings.
