It’s entirely understandable that fans didn’t know that the version of the clock shown during an official broadcast on TV comes from the stadium clock, but that the image they’re seeing on the screen is post processed and thus not in perfect sync with the clock itself.

This IS hard to understand, and it’s where people are getting lost. And I get that - I didn’t know this either prior to this debacle.

But the dispositive fact that is somehow getting buried is this: if Davis had, somehow, been able to freeze time, take his eye off the ball, and look to the scoreboard as the first molecule of the pigskin touched his hand, he’d have seen what the fans players and coaches in the stadium saw and what the referees both in-stadium and in the Big Ten replay office saw: 00:01.

Again, what I don’t understand is why the University and the Conference reacted this way once the MAC started piping up. I get that it probably isn’t courtly to immediately blame NBC, but once NBC and the rest of the media sphere is blaming YOU, you need to respond. And we have evidence - 110,000 people, all of whom have 4K video cameras in their pockets - saw it happen. There surely are security cameras showing what’s happening in every square inch of the Big House. Release the fucking video and drop the mic. But we don’t.

  - I also agree with this. The fact that time was reset to nine seconds before the play makes this a "clean laboratory" so to speak.
