I've got a semi-serious question: Why doesn't Trump just do this? Or if you prefer to make it more "realistic," why doesn't he offer everyone a $25K or $50K check? A $5K check is an extremely bad idea from a policy perspective, as it would be very inflationary, but the main point here is that it's all vaporware -- it's not going to happen, everyone with half a brain knows it's not going to happen (reminder: the GOP controls all three branches right now!), so if you're going to make a totally bullshit "promise," why not make it more spectacular than a lousy five grand? Because people aren't that dumb? Does anybody have a TV because I don't think that's a plausible theory right now.
