There are reports that Yeneni forces in disarray with the Royal Saudi Air Force bombarding the airport and harbor at Mocha. Houthis have apparently seized Perim Island at the narrowest point of the strait.

The Iranians have effectively opened a second front of the war. Now we'll see what sort of drones and anti-ship missiles (ASMs) the Houthis have to block the strait through which all traffic to and from the Suez Canal has to traverse.

There were approximately 13,000 transits thru the canal the last two years. It used to be twice that much in 2023, but Houthi activity in the region cut that in half.

This may be "The Guns of August" scenario I worried about when Trump was first elected in 2016. I thought then, as I do now, that he was ill-equipped to face a cascade of bad events in the foreign affairs sphere.. But with two major conflicts, escalating tensions in Europe, and a Russian-Chinese alliance buttressed by Iran and North Korea, he may be facing one. Our enemies know--as do people of good will in this country--that the United States is vulnerable and is being led by weak, ineffective leadership.
