Adding to this, only because my experience wasn't unique but obviously shared. Junior year, History of the Family Prof hastily canceled class with vague references to explosions in New York. Walked out of Tisch into the Fishbowl in time to see the first tower fall.

Some details have faded, but I recall being paranoid about one of my sisters who worked in Sears Tower at the time (rumors were flying all over about attacks likely to get in every major city).

And like someone below, it's attached to a memory that feels very anachronistic - the weekend prior, hammered during welcome week, I nearly missed my flight to Seattle for the Washington game. I got a ride from my house on Mary and was dropped off maybe 15 minutes before the doors closed, but with limited security (and luck) made the flight with minutes to spare.
