I like to make fun of the “playing 4D chess” argument about tomato can games, but…

It’s probably not entirely not true about WMU game.
What I’m talking about is the idea that a team would play a weird subset of their offense in the tomato can game, as subterfuge, and then bust out the sooper-sekret real offense against ND, or Oklahoma, in this case.
I do think that we probably intentionally did some of this. I mean, obviously the trope is not 100% false. Of course you’d want to hold some things back for Oklahoma if you can. I think it’s pretty clear from various reports and statements that some of last week was spent preparing for the OU game, and that we used some kind of artificial rotation strategies (rotating the guards) and formation packages. The fact that we had so few offensive snaps made it hard/impossible to correct because we just had so few snaps in the second half, between the long WMU drive, the 3-and-outs, and the Bryce fumble.
The coaches, like everyone else, did not expect this to be a competitive game in the second half.
I really hope the OU gameplan looks like (much) less rhino, more regular formations and regular, downhill running. Less drop-back pocket passing, more rollouts and boots, which Bryce seems better at, and more called QB runs.
