My small thoughts on 9/11

Posted on September 11, 2026 at 12:56:05 PM by Mothman

Apologies in advance, im not the best writer.

I don't talk about it.

I don't really have any outlet to discuss it, at work its the usual reverence and a moment of silence... move on.

Where it's the hardest is at home, my children are all born many years after, they know something happened but little understanding. For me personally, I did not lose anyone, I did not have any direct impact. I was just a junior in high school who was suddenly terrified that World War 3 had just begun, and this was my generation's Pearl Harbor... and the draft was coming. It took some time for that fear to fade, but it did eventually fade. I graduated, went on to the greatest university in the world, began what has thus far been a tremendously blessed and successful life. (Humble brag)

My class when the first plane hit was technology, we were all at computers with internet, and too much freedom because we were loved by the teacher and didnt abuse it. Within seconds, we were all gathered around one PC consuming all the information we could.

For me, this is where it gets complicated.

While I was getting this information faster than most in the world, my wife was getting it faster. She was watching out the window of her highschool in NYC, where at 15 years old she saw the chaos in real-time. For the most part, I have to imagine ehat those moments and the following experiences were like for her because she generally does not wish to discuss 9/11. I imagine her sitting in class wondering if her family was alive, wondering if she was going to survive the day, and wondering if this was the end of everything she has ever known.

Im afraid im about to get character limited, so I will probably wrap it up here... but the point of all of this is to say that you never really know what is going on inside someone else. On the outside she is just another person in the world today, mostly ignoring anything 9/11 related, but on the inside the pain is very real.

Respect each other, love each other, and do not rush to judge
