What were the rules if he died say back in June? Would they do a special election on the spot? Does another GOP member get to take his spot?

Does everything just continue until November but without his vote? Given his shenanigans on timing for votes, I suspect he's either dead or incapacitated and they're not admitting it to prevent some sort of rule going into effect that would hurt the GOP. Whenever they come clean as to his status, it will be late enough that the normal election cycle will take place.
