If the coaching staff called for a block they need to be fired. If that was a player trying to hard he needs to be benched. There is zero excuse for that penalty in that situation.

I have to think it's the player being too amped up and thinking he's going to be a hero. Even Sherrone's staff wouldn't have called for a block in that situation.
