Vixen is putting down Bo tomorrow. His tumor has gotten bigger and harder and he's not going outside or eating....

Goddamn, this part of it fucking sucks. So many of us here have been through it the last 5-10 years, and it's shitty and painful to hear about it every time.

We got Bo when we were in Portland, after our LA rottweilers died. Australian cattle dog mutt, with the sweetest face and the prettiest light brown eyes.

We had been talking about getting another dog, but it was still so fucking painful after Zoe and Bruno went down months from each other. I had sent Vixen a link to the dog shelter that had Bo, but we still weren't sure.

She came back from visiting her parents and adopted Bo without me knowing and brought him to my office - it was literally one of the greatest days of my life. I was overjoyed.

Bo was the ultimate Good Boy. He hated to be in trouble, and was such a little rule follower. When we got Roxie, the demon dog pitbull puppy, he quickly deferred his alpha status to her and they got along splendidly.

Daenerys is the mother of dragons, but Bo was the mother of toys. He LOVED getting a new toy. That's one of the few things he'd ascert dominance over Roxie, if she tried to take his new toy.

He didn't chew them up, he didn't play tug or fetch with them - he just mothered them. Licking and nuzzling and suckling and lightly chewing them. At certain points be would come around to us and display his new toy. Not to touch, but to gaze upon. And then he would to back to his bed and fondle it some more.

When the dogs came in from outside, he would sprint to his new toy and make sure it was safe. That dog had so much feminine energy, he honestly was like trans.

His toy would eventually get destroyed, just from his constant mothering. He would have a fucking scrap of it left and still protect it and mother it.

What always amazes me about dogs is how unique and different they are, one to another. Completely different personalities. My memory is shot to shit but I remember every dog I've ever had - distinctly. Not just memories, but specific personality traits, quirks.

Give your doggy a big hug for me and appreciate the time you have together.
