The Victors

1. Bryce was vastly improved but not good enough yet.
Vastly improved in his decision making, putting far fewer balls in danger, but still putting it in danger 1 or 2 times more than I'd like to see
Vastly improved in the use of Bryce in the running game (as in, they did)
Vastly improved in his scramble decision making.
Major improvement needed in the passing game. With the exception of the long throw to Marsh, out passing offense is 100% short throws to Marsh, intermediate throws to Buchannon. Never hear another WRs name, and we do not attack al the parts of the field.

2. Bryce's natural aim is still great, imo. Even that throw to Bonner that missed - he was scrambling, looked like he was ready to throw a shorter route and at the last minute flicks the ball downfield to the sideline and misses by like 6 inches. Completion %age was not good, but many incompletions were understandable and not aim/accuracy related, imo.

3. Running game looks bad. We get nothing at the LOS. Of course it's hard to, when your passing game is limited. But last year we had an electric running game with an even worse passing game. The blocking up front just isn't getting it done. Positive there is that 2-3 times yesterday it looked like we were 1 small thing away from a big play (20+ yards). One was a fantastic open field tackle, one was a single missed block, one was Hiter not letting Bryce keep. If a couple of those had hit yesterday, we'd be much much happier with the run game.

4. Overall, you can see pieces coming together but until the passing game diversifies and the run game starts to click, I don't see this team scoring enough to be comfortable against mediocre team or challenging the really good teams coming up.

5. Defense looks awesome. The secondary is great and they are so far mostly scheming to keep the young LB corps from embarrassing us (though Beers did mock them a little). Being able to pressure with 3 or 4 helped us stuff Oklahoma in a locker.

6. I think by year's end we will say Oklahoma was vastly overrated at #11. I am not a big John Mateer fan. He strikes me as one of those guys who we admire at a mid-major because he makes plays and guts out some wins and helps a mid-major pull or nearly a pull an upset. But day in and day out, he lacks the accuracy to be a big time QB and his ability to extend drive with uncanny scrambles on 3rd and medium still only gets you so far. So now it's 1st and 10 at your own 33 because he converted 3rd and 5 with a scramble. Great. How are you going the next 67 yards?

7. 2 games in, on one hand we are 2-0 which seemed improbable after the way we played week 1. On the other hand, we have scored 30 total points, 6 on a Hail Mary and 7 on a 6 yard TD drive. Against WMU we scored 7 on the first drive, nothing again until the last play.Against Oklahoma, after going up 10-0 our offense did nothing the rest of the game. So it's not fixed yet but we bought ourselves some time to fix it.

8. Familiar territory? After 2 games, we are 25th nationally in yards/play defense. We are 118th in yards/play offense
