Proud dad moment

Posted on September 14, 2026 at 09:56:07 AM by Lodz

My son has been playing football for 6 years. He started in third grade and was already a few years behind his teammates. He also isn’t a coaches son. Two obstacles for him to see playing time.

He’s put the work in and consistently showed up. In the offseason he worked on his quickness and strength everyday. This season rolls around and he’s still a backup for the sixth consecutive year. I kept telling him to keep shown up. That he’d get his shot. And when he did to make the most of it.

Two weeks ago one of the starters was gone from the game so my son filled in for him at DE. He was in the backfield every fucking down blowing up plays. The dline coach noticed and took his son off of the starting spot at D tackle and put my son in this week. Again my son was in the backfield blowing up plays.

The fact he’s grown four inches in the last six months has done wonders for his confidence. The other day he comes home and out of nowhere says he wants to get in the weight room in the offseason.

He’s heard the stories of his great Grandpas playing D1 (one for M). Of his Dad’s athletic and coaching accomplishments. He’s just been grinding and staying positive and it looks like he’s broken through.
