The Wings had 90, 86 and 92 points the last 3 years. 92 points is the best season in the last 10 years for the Wings.
90 pts in 2024 tied for the last playoff spot (lost tie breaker)
92 pts makes the playoffs easily in the West.
Yzerman's first two years in Detroit the team had 40 and 48 points, the latter pro rated for the shorter season. They improved steadily from Year 1 to year 5, which coulda/shoulda been a playoff year. After starting year 6 slowly, he brought in McClellan and they played at a 96 point pace the rest of the year. In Year 7, 92 points over the full year. A bit disappointing in that they didn't gap up but they have been a winning team now for 3 years now. They needed a couple moves to get over the hump.
They have a strong young defensive corp but need a couple scorers. Arvidsson helps but they lost Kane. If Kasper and another younger guy step up they could be in the mix. They should be anyway (they were last year).
