I find it interesting that the NFL has a 2 second margin of error in this situation

If replay shows less than 2 seconds at end of half then no time is put back on the clock. This surely is due to their knowledge that the embedded clock is not perfectly synced with the live action camera. The networks and the NFL are willing to live with a lack of precision in order to avoid disclosing this known anomaly. College football is belatedly following a similar “protocol” due to the firestorm generated by the end of the WMU game. It appears that the television networks are never going to admit that this issue exists.
