1. Doubling the price of diesel has a big effect on the price of food, for everyone, but this especially hurts poorer people.

2. The immigration question isn't about whether or not to let people reside in this country who came here illegally. That's what MAGA wants it to be, but this ignores something critical. These people cultivate, harvest and process a great deal of our food. And build a lot of our housing. We need to give them legal status to be here. It doesn't have to be only a green card and a path to citizenship. It can be guest worker, too.

3. Not only motor fuel prices up. So are prices for heating, including electricity, and for fertilizer and pesticides.

See a pattern here? As this fucking war goes on, more and more Americans are going to find it more financially difficult to feed and house their families and keep them warm this winter. You think this is bad? Wait until strategic reserves are so depleted that we can't get all the food the country needs harvested and transported at any price.

Without diesel and migrant workers, America doesn't eat, not even the fairly well-off. I think I'd better buy some ice fishing equipment and learn how to field dress deer.
