The guy's career is a mystery to me. Somebody must've thought he was a future star in the Michigan GOP, but is it just because of his race?

He lost 2 senate races in a row before dropping to a Congressional seat in a heavy GOP district, and he looks poised to lose another statewide race for Gov. He just seems really bland...what has he done and what does he actually stand for? He's a career politician without much of a career.
