I think the biggest problem for JJ was that Darnold did not turn into a pumpkin in Seattle. There was a “rats on a ship” situation and “it’s not my fault that he sucks” comes with a healthy dose of incentive to say he sucks.

I also suspect but do not know that JJ’s JJ stuff wore thin when broadcast to pros. “In touch with feels and serenity” guy is wired differently than most of the NFL, which means if you’re publicizing that part of yourself, you better be good. He wasn’t, so now he’s “weird” and “sucks” and “also thinks he’s better than us, the other players who don’t suck.” Thats the rep you’ll get in a workplace. In contrast, the NFL is also full of weirdos. But I’d advise JJ to be weird on his own time and just let play talk for him.
