I don't know what I was thinking . . . to me clam chowder was only one thing, and that was a thick, creamy bowl of goodness. I guess I thought Manhattan style just meant that, but maybe a little fancier or something? Anyway, I was 12, it was over 40 years ago, and that moment is still etched in my memory.
