IOwa 16 Iowa State 13 was a statistically weird game

Zero turnovers
Zero sacks
Only 4 combined tackles for loss
13 punts
Only 22 combined first downs

These COULD be the stats of a tough defensive struggle, but they could just as easily be the stats of a game between evenly matched teams with very little offensive firepower.

(All of Iowa and Iowa State’s other games are against UTEP (or worse) level teams.)

Now, I guess you could say the same thing about UM 17 Oklahoma 10, but OU went to the CFP last year. And they are Oklahoma, not Iowa State with a new coach and depleted roster.

We’ll find out soon, but I’m more confident that UMs defensive strength so far is NOT a mirage than I am about Iowa’s D.
