It came out in 1974. It was written by Mario Puzo (teah, that Mario Puzo) and George Fox. The soundtrack was by John Williams (Star Wars, etc) and presented in "Sensurround". Not sure what that was, but my memory is of really heavy bass during earthquake seems that kind of vibrated your seat.

Those "disaster" films were 70's at its best. I also loved Mad Magazine's lampooning them.
