1. His S&C coach put a bevy of players in the hospital with rhabdo. Ferentz was out of state at the time and initially couldn't be bothered to come back before the public outcry forced his hand.

2. His S&C coach used racial slurs routinely, which was too much even for this shitty program. Urban tried to hire the S&C coach and the Jags players immediately rebelled. That was Urban's first indication that he could not treat NFL players like shit has he had done in college. (Getting pushback after he literally kicked his kicker was another example.)

3. Numerous Iowa football players sued the program for racial bias, leading to a $4M settlement.

4. Ferentz kept his incompetent son on staff for years to the obvious detriment of his own program. It got so bad that the AD put specific, easy-to-reach goals in Brian Ferentz's contract (average 24 ppg) and he could not come close to hitting them. Kirk was basically forced to fire his son after years of misery and, lo and behold, the team is better with a median OC.

All of this is, needless to say, orders of magnitude worse than Harbaugh lying about a meal at the Brown Jug and having an analyst getting iPhone footage of signals. Jim's former players seem to really like him. He's also left black men in charge after leaving Stanford and Michigan. But Kirk has a strong jaw and looks like a leader of men so the dumbasses in the media lap that shit up.
