Guarnera -- jogging, makes no effort to find work downfield, it doesn't matter.

Buchanan -- makes a second effort, but just kinda throws a shoulder pad into the DB who dips beneath him, gets a hand on Hiter's foot, and prevents a TD.

Buchanan's play, like most WR blocks, is going to be totally inconsequential 95% of the time. Effort feels like wasted effort. Guarnera could have hauled ass and it wouldn't have effected the play. But the other 5% of the time, the difference between sticking out a shoulder and actually trying to make the best block you can is the difference between an explosive and not.
