Pierzynski is right. It’s ridiculous that a team with a legit shot at the playoffs would trade away the (arguably) best pitcher in baseball, plus a solid #3 starter, for prospects. Teams are supposed to be trying to win, that’s the whole point.

The 12-team playoffs are supposed to give the cheapskate teams a chance to get in, at which point it’s largely a crapshoot. As a Tigers fan, I hope they win it all, but he’s right that teams shouldn’t be rewarded for giving up. Especially true since they did the same damn thing in 2024. It’s like Groundhog Day meets Major League.
