The Victors

My dad had some of this luck. He grew up in Detroit and wound up going to the center for creative studies. He graduated in 1962 and started working for Ford Motor Company as a clay modeler. His boss at the time was Lee Iacocca. The very first project they put him on was the team that was creating the concept vehicle at the time called the Ford Mustang. He went on to be involved in the GT40 racing program as well. He had the chance to work a bit with Carrol Shelby and knew Ken Mills some. The Ford vs. Ferrari film was interesting to sit down and watch with him. He had different details that he remembered that obviously differentiated from what was on the film, but still cool nonetheless to have that opportunity. He went on to work on other Ford projects, such as the LTD, Pinto, F100, and Probe to name some that I remembered.

My dad is 85 now and I've luckily been able to talk with him about some of what he remembers over the years. I know he doesn't have any good memories of Iacocca. Just calls him a shmuck and said he was slimy. He liked Henry Ford II, said he was a smart guy and personable to everyone. Appreciated his interactions with the Ford family in general as they were always around the design center back then. Anyway, interesting time for sure.
