I dont understand relevance of centuries old American colonialism to today or really how central US was to colonialism in general.

We aren’t India. We fought against the colonial power. Many of the natives fought with them. Regardless it was like a million people. Then 10s of millions of immigrants came and 10s of millions generations removed.
