the story surrounding his death is very suspicious and conspiracy theories abound. There have been a few "real crime"-type movie about this. His murder was sort of glossed over in history due to the myriad other assassinations of the decade, including that of Malcolm himself, which I believe was only a few months removed from Cooke's.

One rumor is that infamous Beatles/Stones villain Allen Klein had him killed to procure Cooke's publishing rights.
