I have both professional and personal reasons for this. When you have a long list of people who want to destroy your reputation, you have to minimize risks. I have seen, and personally been involved with, situations in which writers who were on a listserv were "exposed' and written about in a way that implied that everybody on the listserv agreed with, or at least had read and found acceptable, every other message posted there. The absolute safest course for me would be to never post here, but I am hoping reasonable precautions can suffice.
Personally, I don't come here to do for free the thing I get paid to do. I come here to discuss Michigan sports with people who know a lot about the subject, which is not something I can easily find elsewhere. I understand others have a broader range of interests. That's fine, but I don't see any need to include me in those discussions.
