I think somewhere in the 80s he lost all intellectual curiosity and he basically stopped learning new things. No need to read anything, listen to opposing perspectives, or develop his brain in any way.

He had made it, and he was surrounded by sycophants. He was a sociopath with enough power and wealth to simply banish all content that opposed his worldview at that time in history.So many of his obsession is are rooted in late 80s and early 90s thinking.
