Much better than painting names somewhere inside the stadium or erecting statues to Tom Harmon, etc., outside of it. I think Clemson did something similar.
Good gosh, I think we all hated the halo. I like the fact the stadium bowl area is essentially clean. Unfortunately, I think we're coming to the point where there will be ads shown on the scoreboard, we'll see company logos on the uniforms, and some corporation will buy naming rights for the field (and the Crisler Center basketball court floor).
That's where we're headed. We're now in the territory where athletic departments, the donors and entities like the Champions Circle have to generate up $60M+ annually to field top rated football and men's basketball teams.
Didn't Sailor Bill have a deal brewing back in 2010 to get a company to sponsor the Michigan-Ohio State game? I think the sum was $1M and that whole arrangement got shot down by President Coleman. I won't be shocked if schools revisit that idea given the changing finances surrounding college sports.
