he often talks about his Egyptian father’s humble background (he spent summers there as a kid). From what i can gather, his dad came here and got a masters or PHD in engineering at Wayne State and did well for himself (he wound up in bloomfield hills—and i went to high school with him) but it wasn’t a wealthy family upbringing prior to being here.

Also, the US is definitely a wealthy country, but most of its people’s quality of life is dismal compared to people in similarly wealthy countries. Also, also, declaring the US the most tolerant country in the world doesn’t make it true.
